FDR and MLK Memorial

We are in DC. We made it. I flew with all four kids by My SELF! Yes there was an angel helping me along the way in the form of a wonderful grandmother figure who so kindly offered to sit with Addy and Luke and entertain them the entire 4 hour flight. It also helped that Sophie slept for 3 of the 4 hours. It was delightful. After a few days of time change adjustments we have settled in for our vacation from reality very nicely. Daddy arrived on Monday which was a huge blessing as we were all missing him after 9 days of separation. Our first family outing together was down to the FDR and MLK memorials. The kids did amazing (imagine little ping pong balls running in every direction). I was a little frazzled trying to keep up with them. I get a little freaked out in public places with out a stroller or a cart to keep them near my side. I am trying to be a little more trusting of them but really they are only 2, 4 and 5 years old. What can I expect.

I tried to get a shot of them all standing "in line" but alas this is the best we could get. Little Claire loves to "walk" all by herself but don't be fooled by those big dough eyes. She is a little firecracker and when she gets freedom she takes any change to run.

My ridiculously good looking parents. Seriously I hope I get the genes where I get younger looking as I grow older. As of now they have yet to kick in. But I have my fingers crossed for the future.

I always took for granted how beautiful the Washington Monument was. It was in my backyard growing up. How did I never fully take in its beauty!

Like I said. Claire was having a very HARD DAY. This included lots of screaming, tears and general unpleasantness. Poor little dear has been struggling with illness on and off for 6 months. I can't wait for the day when my little Claire is healthy and happy again.

Learning about Martin Luther King from the parks tour guide. The kids were quite enthralled. It was a great teaching moment to learn about diversity and what it means to be truly free and equal despite differences.

Little known fact. The Martin Luther King memorial is the only national monument dedicated to one person that was not a president.

My beautiful little Addy. She is truly growing up into such a wonderful little girl. She is so helpful, smart and always very persistent. She is eager to learn and is excelling in school. I just love my dear little girl with a HUGE imagination.

These two photos capture my life in a nutshell. Lots of silliness and laughter. Being a mother is hard no doubt. It is tiresome and physically demanding, especially right now for me. For heaven sakes as I have written this post in the past hour I have put kids "back" to bed at least 15 times. They have switched beds, switched rooms, needed water, potty brakes. There were tears shed, books read, prayers said, kisses upon heads. Up and down hundreds of times. But here I sit now if just for a brief moment in silence to ponder what I actually have. Lots of love and lots of fun. I am so blessed. So very blessed.

My sweet Sophie. For that is what I shall call her always. She continues to be a source of peace and calm in our family. She lights up a room with her smile and when the chaos is swirling around me all I have to do is look at her and I feel a flood of calm and peace rush over me. She is an angel and a blessing, as all of my children are, in every way.

We have had a nasty virus going through our house this week. This means we get to enjoy lots and lots of Popsicles, sugar free of course. Addy is such a rock star and has adjusted to the no sugar lifestyle like a champ. She is feeling SO much better as well. Yea!!

Today was a special day. My kids had their first experience with the magic of Disney. It was so wonderful being able to watch the show through their eyes. I almost cried when tinker bell flew onto the ice. Watching my children's expressions were priceless. I will never forget it. Disney truly is a magical experience. I can't wait for the day when I can take them to Disney world. Now that is going to be awesome.

Sophie is scooting. How can that be at just 4 1/2 months? Its a question i continue to ask myself.

She is the happiest baby in every way. She is an awesome napper. Were working on better nighttime sleep. She loves her brother and sisters, and smiles at just the sound of them entering the room. She is rolling over, loves to suck on her fists and fingers. She has FINALLY started taking a binky. We just love having this little doll in our family!

Ok so its that time of year. The time when there is a crispness in the air. Where you realize that it's time to wear that new coat you bought on sale last year! Where you want to stay sleeping longer because it's darker later. And of course it's that time of year when we all start thinking about the HOLIDAYS!!!

Claire Bear turns 2

On Monday Claire turned 2 years old. We enjoyed a nice day at home (mom and Sophie were a little under the weather), and had a fun party that evening. Claire is a ball of energy. She is spunky, hysterical, strong willed, stubborn, sweet, cuddly, and extremely loving. She surprises me every day with her budding vocabulary and the things she says. My favorite phrase as of late is "The dentist is very, VERY scary!" We went yesterday and it was not a pleasant experience for her, even though she got nothing done. She just didn't want to see mommy with a bib on lying down on a table with someone else brushing her teeth. In retrospect the experience was pretty funny. While there I will admit I was very stressed with her screaming beside me and me thinking would you hurry up so I can pick up my screaming baby?

Sweet Claire wants to be big so bad. She has been expressing or demanding rather to sleep in a "big girl bed" for the past several weeks. I have resisted because that means putting all three kids in the same room to sleep and well we all know what a party that's going to be. I might consider it in a few months, so for now she is going to just have to fight me for a while. I have a feeling Claire is going to be a "pick your battles" child for me. She refuses to sit in her high chair and she wants to sit in a booster seat like her big sister and brother. She also wants to go to school, play dates, and does not want to take a nap and pretty much loves to do whatever they are doing. I think she would be happy if the next few years would zoom by so she could really be a BIG girl. For me I want her to stay my little Claire for a while. I am not quite ready for her to grow up so fast.

Labor day weekend was AMAZING! We were surrounded by so much family and felt so loved. These photos taken by my sister Emily and myself document the events well. To my family I miss you all already. I really don't understand why my dream of having everyone live on the same street can't come true.

I am sure when I am older I will "really" feel that way. For now I am going to savor the moments and drink in the sweetness of my little angels.

Addy had her first day of Kindergarten last week. I am not really sure how I feel about the whole "starting school" thing. For many different reasons. I am already missing our lazy Summer days where James stayed home got the kids breakfast in the mornings and I got to laze in bed snuggling my baby. Oh those memories will be sweet. At least we are only doing afternoon school this year so we can still kind of be lazy in the mornings. I am loving that.

These two are going to miss each other in the afternoon. They are pretty much the best of friends. At least though they will get to share stories with each other about their day. I am looking forward to that.

Sophie's Baby Blessing

Yesterday we had the opportunity for James to give Sophie her baby blessing. It was a wonderful experience. We had so many family members and friends come to support us. Thank you to everyone who made the great journey to be with us. It was a treasured weekend that I will never forget. I tried to get a family photo of us all together but with James being Bishop of our ward I was not able to snag him before Church so I got one of me and the kids. I think it turned out pretty cute.

I am back... photographing that is. I took a little hiatus when I was on bed rest for 9 weeks and then had a newborn but now after all of this time I feel ready to pick up my camera again and start documenting life. Today I am titling this post exposure for many reasons. Here is my house (life) exposed. I had to document this because the reality is that most days at some point each of these rooms looks this way. At another day I will post "clean" photos, but for now you get my current reality. Its okay though because shortly after these photos were taken James and I took our little troops and we whipped the kitchen, and family room into shape. Sadly our bathrooms are still being neglected, baby steps.

That is the reality I reside in. Here is the reality I live in...

   Today we enjoyed the annual 4th of July parade in our town. The highlight of the parade was the Star Wars float. My kids were going CRAZY! Luke kept shouting "There are my guys!" (he has a little star wars lego set that he plays with for hours on end). It was worth the heat to see my kids faces light up with excitement. Claire kept shouting "More princess, more princess." That's my girl. Little Sophie did amazing as she slept for the entire two hours. What a great baby she is.
   We have also loved having Mom and Dad L. here with us. The kids are in heaven with their grandparents as they were feeling the void of Mimi being gone. I am so glad that they have had so much time with both sets of grandparents as of late. I wish that all of our family lived close as mine did when I was growing up. I guess we will take what we can get.
   Another update, last night Luke said he was done using his binky and blanky to go to sleep. He went to bed like a big boy and went straight to sleep. It was amazing to me. I am so proud of my big guy! He is getting so old. Also, Sophie gave me my first real smile last night. I was getting her ready for bed with her nightly bath and lotion and as I was cooing and smiling at her her face light up in a smile. It melted my heart. I yelled for James to come up but when we tried to get her to do it again she would not preform on command. I did get her to do it again this morning. (Lucky me!)
   I am also battling my second mastitis infection this nursing cycle. I am on a new antibiotic that seems to be helping but it gives me migraines. Can I get a brake please? I really don't want to stop nursing so I am just praying that these infections go away and NEVER RETURN!

Happy 4th of July everyone! For all of my DC friends enjoy the amazing fireworks show for me. I sure miss DC on the 4th.

My dear friend Joanna lovingly took these amazing photos of our newest addition. Sophie continues to amaze me. She is a dream baby. Hardly cries, sleeps pretty good (for a newborn who still eats every 2.5 hours) and is the best cuddler. Her siblings are as much in love with her as her parents are. I feel like a little hole in my heart has been filled by this little Spirit. Its like she has always been a part of me and now I am lucky enough to hold her in my arms.

Sorry it has been Months since I last posted. It has been a very long and stressful couple of months so I do have some excuses. In short I was on bed rest for the last 9 weeks of my pregnancy. My mom moved in with us to take care of all of us. She is an angel sent from heaven! The bed rest post will come ( I have been working on it) but I feel it important to share the news of our newest arrival Sophie Maria LeCheminant! She arrived on June 6, 2011 at 8:04pm after 2.5 hours of labor. I went unmedicated with this labor and with how fast it went I highly recommend it! I didn't feel much pain because after two bad contractions little Sophie made her arrival into the world (with No DR. present). Our nurses who aided in her swift delivery were amazing and James and my mom were the best support.

This birth experience has been so different from any of my other labors. That story to come. For now I will leave you with our birth story in pictures. My mom was amazing and took tons of photos of our experience.

Why Mom?

I know I am overkill with Claire asking why but I want to document it. It amazes me that kids that young can pick up/ and comprehend so much. Today as I was putting Claire down for her nap she saw the other kids running outside to play. She kept saying "ou-side! ou-side" I told her: "No Claire its time to take a nap. We can go outside when you get up from your nap." She persisted and I told her "No Claire its nap time." She then looked up at me with her doe eyes and said "Whhhyyyyy Mom?" It really made me smile and laugh. How can she really be saying these things at only 17 months old. I guess that's what happens with the third baby. They pick up on everything their older siblings say and do.

Ice Castles

Today we went to see the ice castles of UT. They were amazing and even more magical with all the snow we were getting. If you live in UT I would highly recommend it.

Yes that is totally my baby, growing up before my very eyes. Today she learned how to say "bell" and the other day I heard her sining " E I E I OOOOOOO" in her crib.

Potty Time

Tonight at dinner Luke announced that he was "holding it." I took this as a sign to run to the potty which, surprisingly he willing did. When we got there it was a whole different story. After 20 minuets and a whole bunch of tears (brought on by fear, pain, and well just because he is Luke) he finally went "pee pee" in his little potty. We all sang, and he was happy. Afterwards we all celebrated with a lollipop. I am hoping this is the start to full time potty boy. I am not crossing my fingers but I do think we are moving in the right direction... finally! Way to go little Lukey boy! I sure love you!

Today was our weekly library trip. I love our town because they have the most amazing story time at the local library every day of the week. Most weeks we go two or three times. My kids just LOVE it. Anyway, we ended up coming home with our weekly supply of books (30 in all today). Tonight as we were reading the kids asked if we could read the Charlie and Lola book Addy picked out. (Addy has never seen Charlie and Lola, I think she just liked the cover) I have seen the show once so I new that the characters spoke with British accents. So in true Katharine form I broke out the accents while I read to the kids. They were captivated. There was no wiggling, trying to turn the page too early, or fussing that they wanted another story. They sat there through the whole book with eyes glued on me and the pages I was reading from. I am not sure if it was the book itself they were captured by or it was the strange way mommy was talking. Either way it was really adorable. I think I might try my accents on them more often. It might just be the trick to get them to actually listen to mommy when they are just not in the mood to. I will report back and let you know how it goes.

* On another note Claire had some milestones today... She was mad at nap time and decided that she didn't want to go to sleep or stay in her crib so she CLIMBED OUT! Yup, my 16 month old baby, climbed out of her crib. Whats a girl to do now? Oh man I don't know if I am ready for a big girl bed, and I don't know how I feel about the crib tent thing. I am going to have to just pray that she does not do it again. At least for a while.

* Claire also decided that she wanted to walk, not climb, up the stairs today. She did it with ease and grace. Seriously? She is growing up way too fast. Way too fast! I think its just her way of letting me know I can have this baby now, because obviously she is quickly outgrowing that place in the family. Too bad she will be my baby for at least 4 more months. Sorry baby girl. I love you too much to let you grow up so fast. You will ALWAYS be my baby.

I just started reading Nurture Shock by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman. It is a very scientifically researched based book on different parenting topics. I would HIGHLY recommend it. Lets just say for a girl who doesn't have much time to read I am hooked on this one and have been thinking a lot about what is discussed in the book. If anyone out there wants to read it I am dying to talk with someone about it. So go out and buy it, read it, and lets discuss.

Potty Time

Its Potty Training time at our house. I really REALLY have been dreading this. I need some suggestions on how to potty train a very stubborn and sensitive 3 year old little boy. Right now he screams at the thought of having to go on the potty. Ummmm seriously? How do I get him over this fear? I REALLY need SUGGESTIONS, tricks, tips, anything PLEASE! Don't be shy, please comment if you anything to say that might help make this a good experience. I am so desperate. I know he is ready he is just so afraid! Ahhhh... what's a mother to do?

Today my baby boy turns 3 years old! WOW! I can't believe that you are already 3 years old Luke. How did that happen so fast? Can you stop growing for a little while so I can still think of you as my little baby. At least you still like to cuddle with mom. Now that's going to be a sad day when that stops.

Luke is a true joy in our family. He is so naturally loving and caring. He is always helping when he can and trying to make others feel good. He loves to play with his sisters and enjoys making us all laugh. Luke is a natural at all sports so far and I am excited to finally get him started in Soccer or Karate this Spring.

I love you little buddy! Even though your getting big you will still always be my little "Lukey."

In all of the cold weather we are experiencing I wanted to remember a little bit of the warmth I felt this Summer. Here are some of our beach pictures that I promised to, but never posted. We couldn't be more excited at the prospect of having family near by. Now four out of five siblings will be living in UT, Bryan is moving here in January (whohoo!) We just have to convince Mike and Nancy and Mom and Dad to move out and life would be perfect!

Happy Birthday to my little baby girl. Not so little anymore... Wow one years old! Where did the past year go? I feel like since Claire Bear has been born our life has been moving in fast forward. I know I have talked about this before but really that's really how I feel.

Just so I don't forget and so my little baby never feels neglected I want to jot down some of my memories of Claire in a letter.

Dear Claire,
   One years old. How can that be? I remember one year ago today when you first were put in my arms. You were sticky and pink (actually pretty white) and bright eyes. Quickly after you were born you were whisked away from me. One of the most horrible moments in my life so far. You couldn't breath and needed to get some help from the CPAP machine. As your mother my heart was leaving the room as you were taken from me. When the got you settled in the NICU they wheeled me up to see you and with tears in my eyes and pains in my heart I was able to only reach for your little feet. Despite the tubes, lights, and sounds, you looked so peaceful. Luckily you didn't have to stay long although the 7 hours you were there felt like eternity. I kept calling the nurses station asking them to please check and see when you were going to be brought down to me. I think they thought I was a being a pest. It was the first of many times, I know, that I fought to be with my little girl. I want you to know Claire that I will always fight for you. You, my dear, are an angel sent from God. I am your earthly mother trying really hard to help guide you through this crazy life.
   Your first year of life has been a roller coaster. You have had many problems with feeding (lactose intolerance = major fussiness = very unhappy baby at times. When we got that taken care of your sweet and gentle nature emerged. You have shown to be strong willed just like your older brother and sister. I always say "you know what you want when you want it!" I think that is true with all of you. You are a studier. You look at people with deep observation and when they pass your test you smile. You love to laugh with your siblings. They love to make you laugh. You love to be independent, and you love your mommy and daddy time. You are a Daddy's girl! When Daddy comes in the room you leap out of my arms (truly you leap I am ashamed to say I have almost dropped you a few times because you were so strong and squirmy). You are close to walking but not quite. You crawl all over the place. Your favorite is when I put the stair gates down and you move as fast as your little arms and legs can carry you to go up the stairs. I think it is some sort of game with you now. Just today you learned how to go down the stairs. Head first! I was nervous to let you do this but since it was just to the step down living room (5 stairs) I figured I should let you try. You did it on the first try! I was so proud of you, but your Daddy is still a little nervous to let you try this move too much. I am not though. I know you can do it and do it you will! There is no stopping you my little Claire.
   So today on your very special first birthday I want you to know how much I love you. How much you have changed my life and made me a better mother and woman. I am so grateful for all of your little hugs and kisses. They make me melt now and I know they will make me melt forever! I love you angel!

So I have been such a blog slacker these past few months. I will do better just as soon as I rid myself of the addictive habit of email/facebook checking. Its really a problem people, and I KNOW I am NOT the ONLY ONE out there with this problem. I decided to dial down my computer/cyber world time and dial into my LIFE more. It has been WONDERFUL! Freeing actually. To feel like I can actually get things done and look back at my day and see I have accomplished things is a GREAT feeling. I have been playing with my kids more, doing more projects/experiments with them, and most of all smothering them with hugs and kisses. I have also noticed that my lack of computer time has allowed James and I to have more face/talk time.Which has been GREAT! I just want to publicly tell him how proud of him I am and how grateful I am for his dedication to the Lord and our family. He is AMAZING and I am one LUCKY girl!

Okay so I am just going to jot down a few things that have been on my mind and then I am out!

* My new solution to the out of control laundry situation that we ALL deal with ( I know I have written about this problem before). Well back in Aug I decided to make a "Family Closet." All of the clothes for the entire family are now located in our master bedroom (walk in) closet. My solution is I think genius. It has allowed me to do all of the laundry in a much more efficient way. I wash a load every day or so and then take the clean load from the dryer to the closet and put it away all in one place. No more forty step process. Its been a dream solution. If you have the space I would encourage everyone to try it! If you want pictures of how we did it, I will provide them.

* Claire is almost one years old. WOW! That is a whole post in itself though and it will come soon.
Today we put her in a front facing car seat. She is so big. The latest problem is this. Our back seat of our van will not fit all THREE of our HUGE car seats, so one child is always left to sit in one row alone. This does not go over well with any of my kids. Now every time we go in the car its a fight . The latest plea is "Mom, I don't have a buddy." What should my solution be??? New car seats that will actually fit (do those actually exist?) or we just have another baby so that everyone can have a buddy? I am going to ponder long and hard about that one!

* After I ran my half marathon this Summer I was all geared up to keep running. Then I went on VACATION! Oh man! I don't know how people on the east coast run in %200 humidity and 900 degrees. It was horrible. Needless to say I didn't run much for those three weeks we were there. Then well, I was out of the habit. This past week I was so frustrated with myself I decided on Friday morning to sign up to run in a 6K race on Saturday morning (the NEXT DAY). Remember I have not run really in two months. Well I did it and I am not back on the running train. I was proud of myself for doing it and I actually made pretty good time. Now on for training for a Halloween 10K and then maybe another half. If there is one thing I have learned about myself it is that I don't like to run for fun. I need to be training that is what I find really fun. Maybe I am strange I don't know. Its just me!

Okay I better run... gotta go snuggle with my babies.

Addy starts preschool 2010

Today Addy started her first day of "4 year old" preschool. She is going 4 mornings a week this year and with her gone just for a few short hours this morning I am really missing her already. I am missing my baby who seems to be growing up so fast I can't catch up to her. She was so excited to go to preschool this morning, after getting over a few nerves she ran right into her class and never looked back. I left with a tear in my eye.

When I picked her up she went on and on about her teachers, all of the new friends she met and how they played pretend with dress ups and a little house, lots or pretend food and everything! She said they went on a little hike outside and when the bell rang it was recess time. Recess, really? Is she really old enough to go to recess? She told me today that when she was done with preschool she was going to kindergarten, then first grade, second grade and then finally third grade. I am not sure why she stopped their but I guess she thinks third grade is the place to be. So cute. I think Addy was born to be in school and to learn. She soaks up everything her teacher says and I think she is going to have a great year.

I don't think I could have captures her excitement any better. She insisted on wearing this coat which is a little too big for her but it was her new coat from Mimi and she wanted it with her. I couldn't argue with her on that one.

The kids have been working with Claire on her walking skills. I think its a bit too early but hey I am not going to discourage them from working together. They practice with her every day. I still think she has some time before she "gets it." She, like her sister, is a little twinkle toes. I think she also likes to prove she can manage just fine on her own, especially when it comes to the stairs. I love my little angels.

Tonight we took a spontaneous trip up to Park City. It was so much fun. We called it family fun night. Addy kept asking "mom and dad why do we have fun in our family?" We answered "because we can!" The weather was perfect and the kids were on their best behavior. We even got the bonus of everyone falling asleep (besides mom and dad of course) on the way home. Ahhhh... this is the beginning of a great long weekend.

Just looking at all of these photos makes me want to whisper a prayer of thanks for all four of my sweetest life blessings.

While we were in DC Claire was taught a new trick by her Uncle Mike, clapping. Here is a priceless photo of Claire and her uncles practicing. So adorable. We miss you guys!

My little Claire is off and going. I mean really going all over the place. She is moving like a bullet across the floor up the stairs, and in and over anything she can climb on. How did this happen so fast? We just have been home one day and I think I ran another half marathon today chasing after her. At least maybe now I will lose the rest of my baby weight. One thing James and I did notice today was that Claire never fussed or cried at all today. We let her roam all over giving her no limits (stairs excluded when unsupervised) and she was so delighted to explore all over the house. It is amazing to me how fast she is growing. I love seeing glimpses of her personality explode and develop. She is curious about everything, She ALWAYS wants to do what her siblings are doing, and she loves to snuggle me before bed. Thats my Claire bear. I think I'll keep her.

My thoughts on laundry

Okay so I have a beef... and its with doing laundry! I have to be totally honest... I HATE DOING LAUNDRY!
I hate that there are hundreds of steps to get the task done..

1. wear the cloths
2. get them dirty
3. throw them on the floor (if your my kids)
4. pick them up off the floor
5. put them in the hamper
6. take the hamper down stairs to laundry room
7. sort the colors
8. apply spray n wash to stains
9. let them sit
10. apply bleach spray
11. let it sit
12-20. wash loads
20-30. dry loads
31-41. fold and sort all clothes
42. put away Addy's clothes
43. put away Luke's clothes
44. put away Claire's clothes
45. put away my clothes
46. put away James's clothes.
47. collapse in exhaustion
48. start all over!

Seriously!!! This is a full time job. I mean really. Hours of work. Remembering to change the loads for me takes all the brain power I have some days. Be honest with yourself, how many times have you left a load in the wash for a few days and when you finally remember to change it you open the washer to find a pungent moldy smell hit you hard in the face. It happens to me far to often then not. (add a little ammonia to the wash next time and the smell is gone). At least I have that little saving grace of a trick. I mean really who wants to go around with moldy smelling clothes, or dry off after a fresh shower with a moldy smelling towel... GROSS!!!

I think that isn't even the worst part though. The collecting of the clothes, and the washing and drying I can handle, its the folding and putting away that I cringe at the thought of. I will admit right now I have piles of folded clothes sitting in my laundry room waiting to be put away... I just don't want to do it. Something in me digs my heals in when I think of putting away clothes. Maybe its because I know that when I do this the task starts ALL OVER AGAIN!!! I propose a communal closet, right there attached to the laundry room. That way the clothes don't ever have to leave. They can always stay in the same place. I think in my next house that will be a requirement. Yes a requirement indeed. That or I will have unlimited funds to hire someone to do this horrid task for me!

Ahhhhh.... dreams do come true. Don't they?

I did it!

Well, I did it! I finished my first Half Marathon post baby. I am just going to toot my own horn here but I am so proud of myself. Feeling a little sore today (one day after) but I am SOOOO glad I finished and made a great time!

These past two weeks have been pretty crazy, went to AZ with the fam and visited fam , came home with some extended fam (Mom and Dad L.) in toe, 4th of July festivities, Dad. L left, Aunt Noelle and baby Sabrina come and visit, Uncle Bobby goes to the hospital with a collapsed lung (Monday before race), Mom comes to take care of Bobby (Thursday before race), Bobby has major lung surgery (day before race), Claire decides she is not going to sleep ever again (every night for two weeks before the race). It truly has been an adventure leading up to race day.

Side note... Bobby is doing well. He has a long recovery ahead but he is surrounded by people who love him and I know he will pull through just fine! Thank you Bailey & Fam for taking care of Bobby and mom! You guys ROCK!

On Race morning Claire decided 4am would be a good wake up time... or maybe it was before that but I was too tired to know. I got up got ready and James took me, Claire, and my girls, Alisha, and Beth, to the race drop off. We ran the Hobbler Half Marathon which winds down the majestic Hobble Creek Canyon. We arrived at 5:20am and hopped on one of the buses that took us up the canyon to the start line. It was breezy but I was feeling pretty good. We waited for about an hour before we all got lined up to start. It was so much fun getting all geared up to go with the butterflies stirring and the adrenaline beginning to pump through my veins. Oh man do I love that feeling. Its a little addictive. I can see why people talk about the runners/race high. Its very real. As we crossed the start line I was feeling great! The first 6 miles were fantastic, so beautiful, and I couldn't believe our pace. It was much faster then I had trained. I was so excited!

The rest of the race went great. I ran with two great friends and had fun talking, listening to some great music (thanks Bobby!) and enjoying the fact that I was going to finish and finish strong! By the time we made it out of the canyon we had about 3 miles left. No big deal I thought to myself. I can totally do this! It was getting hot we had to take a few quick water brakes but I was feeling good. My feet were hurting but my mind was focused and I was going to finish! Crossing the finish line was AMAZING! Alisha, Beth and I all decided to run across together. We started together and wanted to finish together, and so we did.

All I can really say is that seeing my family at the end of the race brought tears to my eyes. Luke kept shouting "way to go mom!" and Addy ran up to me gave me a huge bouquet of flowers and said how proud of me she was. It was so heartwarming. I am so grateful to my wonderful husband for all of his support. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have been able to train the way I did. I am truly blessed.

Overall I will say that I am now addicted. I mean I crossed the finish line and thought to myself... which race can I do next? Hummm... more about that later. For now here are the race day photos! Thank you Noelle for taking the AWESOME pictures!

AZ fun

Our trip to AZ was so much fun. We visited James' family for this past week. It was HOTTER then HOT there but that didn't stop us from fully taking advantage of all the fun AZ had to offer. We can't wait for our next visit!

* disclaimer - all of the photos on this post were taken with my point and shoot camera. I just didn't want to lug my big camera around all day. Hence the quality is not great but I think it captured our fun times just perfectly.

A little present left my some neighborhood vandalizers in Cedar City while visiting with our cousins. It was REAL RED paint. It came off the window with a razor blade but, it was the paint on the body of the car that's another story. It didn't put a damper on things in the least though. We were on our way to AZ regardless.

My happy little ones. They were troopers on the 10 hour car ride. I can happily say that I can totally do that again.

My poor sick baby... During the trip Claire did amazing despite being sick almost the entire time. By the end of our 13 hour day she was done in! Thanks for being such a trooper sweet girl. You are my hero!

Today Addy was in HEAVEN! We were able to attend the Princess Festival that is held here in town every year. It was so magical. She got to meet her favorite princesses (Aurora and Cinderella). Sitting Up

Our big news and discovery for the day is... Claire is finally sitting up unsupported. I no longer have to worry about her on the floor. It is a milestone as far as baby development goes. She has a new view of the world and is loving it. Now I just have to brace myself for her crawling stage which I know is not too far off. Wow she is growing way too fast.

James asked Luke who his favorite girl was... his response "Adds ( Addy)." Then he asked him who his favorite mom was...his response "Katharine!" Then he said "my favorite baby is Claire!" Too cute!

Today consisted of ...

* Waking up to a baby that decided to sleep in until 7:45am (YEA), but other kids decided to wake up early 7am (Boo)

* Parents day at Addy's dance class (YEA) and Daddy got to join us (DOUBLE YEA!)

* Made more GACK with Addy (YEA)

* Didn't get an afternoon nap (BOO)

* Took Addy and Luke to their first swimming lesson of the season (YEA)

* Luke and Addy both traumatized by swimming lessons (BOO). (we are working with a new private swim teacher who has a very intensive approach, the goal is to have the kids swimming and floating by the end of the two week session, after day one both kids were floating on their own! AMAZING!!!)

* While on the way to swimming lessons realized that I forgot Luke's bathing suite (BOO). He ended up wearing a swim diaper and plastic undies (So sorry buddy!)

* While waiting for kids at swimming Claire decided to leak out of her diaper and pee all over herself and me! AWESOME ... (Boo)

* When I got home I handed Claire off after getting her little naked body out of the car seat and then realized that I didn't fasten her diaper well enough and got poop all over me! (Double Boo)

* Ended the day with a 4.5 mile run! Hard but good! (YEA)

I signed up for my half marathon! July here we come!

30 Day Cleanse

For the past two weeks James and I have been doing a 30 day cleanse. It has been so great. Hard the first couple of days... I really missed my daily coke fix but after day 3 I have not had any cravings at all. Here is what we are doing...

* No Meat
* No Sugar
* No Wheat or Gluten
* No Dairy

Okay so I know what most people are thinking... "What in the heck are they eating?" The answer is, lots of veggies, fruits, beans, brown rice, and lots of water.

The purpose of doing this cleanse is to retrain my taste buds. I have been way to addicted to certain foods and I just figured if I cut them out then I can teach my body to crave veggies and fruits more ( I have really always been a veggie and fruit lover so it was not a hard change for me). Tomorrow will mark two weeks. I feel great and have even lost a few lbs (which is a great bonus!) Our kids are eating much healthier as well. I hope to keep it up. My fingers are crossed that I will have the will power to do it.

Why I Run

Because... I can!

For the past 4 months I have been exercising. I know I have talked about this before but I think my new love for running has now taken a hold of me. I not only love running I am a little obsessed with it. It is so amazing watching my body go a little bit further with each run. When I first started I could not even run a mile now I am running 3 + miles at a time. I am addicted to the feeling I get (its a high really) when I tell myself to go a little farther, to push a little harder. It also helps that I have a great running partner who motivates me all along the way. On Saturday (last week) I finished a 5K and RAN the entire thing. I was so proud of myself! It was such a rush and a high.

Back in 2002 I ran the Disney World Marathon... I want to find that girl again. The one that loved the feeling of pushing her body a little harder, and pushing her mind a little farther. I can honestly say... I think she is back!

I have committed to myself that I will do a half marathon this Summer. I am so excited to continue my training. If anyone reading this wants to join me let me know and I will give you the details.

This is how I am feeling after my horrific church experience today. I felt like a leaper with my wild monkey children. No one wanted to be near us but everyone was staring. It was humiliating. I am at a loss. Really, at a loss.

* Just to be clear... I know things will get better, and I know that these feelings will only last for a moment. I probably just need to get some sleep.

Yesterday was a beautiful day and my green thumb came out. Addy and I went and picked out some yummy herbs for all of our fun Summer dishes and decided it was time to plant. James and Addy had fun putting it all together... as you can see.

My mouth is watering just thinking of all of the tasty dishes we are going to cook up.

Addy is becoming more and more like Nana every day. Her love for flowers is overwhelming. She needs to stop wherever we go and smell, pick or admire all of the beauty that surrounds her. That is just how Nana was. She would soak it all in. I sure miss her.

Updates -

I feel like it has been a long time since I really blogged. The past several weeks have been super busy for us. We have been recovering from illness (all better now), enjoying visits from my mom, dad and brothers. Got to enjoy meeting my soon to be sister-in-law's family (Thanks for coming down guys!), and pleading with the heavens to bring us some warmer weather and blue skys. I am happy to report we are now enjoying good health AND good weather, FINALLY!!! I don't know how long its going to last so I am going to relish in it as long as possible. I was painfully reminded yesterday that I am NEVER to let my kids play outside without sunblock on. Even thought the weather was in the low 60's the sun was shining BRIGHT and poor little Addy felt the effects of it. So our morning routine will now consist of lathering up to keep my kids pale porclin skin protected. Now all we have to do is put up our fence in our backyard (should be in about 10 days if I can just get a hold of the landscaper to move our sprinklers first...arggg) and the Summer O' Fun shall commence in full swing. Addy keeps asking me if it is warm enough outside for the sprinklers. I think we might hold off on that for a couple more weeks though.

In other news Addy is on the countdown to her 4th birthday. One month from today Addy turns 4 years old. She is already planning her party and daily tears are shed that its not her birthday tomorrow. She still struggles with her understanding of time. The pains of childhood, waiting! I do have to say that I have noticed her growing up and maturing a lot lately. She is so helpful with Luke and Claire and is so loving. I just wish she still took naps. Not for me, but for her. She just falls apart in the afternoons because well she is pretty much done in! I think I am going to reinsititute quiet afternoon time. She just needs to rest in some way. Hopefully that will help make our afternoons (the witching hours 4-7pm) happier for everyone. I still can't believe that Addy is getting so old. One more year and she is going to be in Kindergarten. How does time fly so fast? I feel like I blink and my kids are another year older. WOW!

Luke has been talking up a storm. He has the sweetest way about him but also can push Addy's buttons when he wants to. He is very stubborn and won't usually change his mind unless he is fully distracted from what he was focused on. His favorite food is tortillas with cheese and beans. He lovingly refers to this meal as "tia beans." He would eat it for every meal if I let him and to be honest some days I do. I just hate to fight the food battle. I have though tried to change it up lately and he has started to try some new foods, YEA! I think its just part of life. Kids go though their picky stage and they eventually they get out of it. Luke is so loving and sweet. He loves his sisters. He loves to play with Addy and every time she is gone he will ask about 100 times "Addy go mom?" It is so sweet to see the relationship that is developing among the kids. I love it!

Claire is my little angel. She is in a great place right now. She rarely cries (thank goodness). At almost, 7 months, she is sitting up with support, loves to smile and interact with everyone in the family, and is eating food 2 times a day. Claire is an amazing sleeper. She takes two naps a day and goes to bed for the night at 6:30pm. Claire is so adaptable. As the third child she has to adjust to the schedule of everyone else. I am so grateful for her sweet and tender spirit. I love the quiet moments I have with her where she lets me cuddle her and gaze at her beautiful face. I see a lot of her sister in her. I am excited to watch her grow and see her personality come more and more alive.

For the past 2 1/2 months I have been participating in a weight training program. Most people who know me know that I am not much of an exerciser. I didn't ever really catch the passion for exercising... until now. Participating in this program has given me a new found excitement for exercise. I am able to exercise for 1 hour a day 5 days a week. It has been so much fun to have some time to myself and feel my self getting stronger. I have not seen much weight loss (darn baby weight) but I do feel so good. I feel stronger with so much more energy. It is a great start to the day and I am loving the quiet time I get to have without the demands of motherhood weighing on me. It centers me for the day and motivates me to be more active with my kids. I am even training for two different races this Spring and Summer. I am writing about this because I want it to be a reminder to myself when things get hard. I LOVE IT, and hope I keep it up forever! I am a better mother for it!

Okay thats it for now. I am going to go build a fort with the kids... what are you going to do?
